About Connect Four

Connect Four was released by Milton Bradley in 1974. It is played on a vertical 7-column by 6-row grid. Players alternate dropping discs into columns; each disc falls to the lowest empty cell in that column. The first player to form a line of four of their own discs wins.

The winning opening

In 1988, Connect Four was proven to be a first-player win with perfect play — and the key move is opening in the center column. Our strategy guide explains why.
